“The Rocky Mountain Cup International Poetry Competition for Primary and Secondary School Students” is jointly organized by more than ten educational institutions or schools from different countries around the world, including Canada’s CANLIVES Events. Participants in the competition will come from over 50 countries, representing primary and secondary school students.

Competition Objectives:

The aim of the English Poetry Competition is to encourage primary and secondary school students from around the world to showcase their talent in English poetry creation, enhance their interest in learning English, and foster their love for English poetry creation.

The competition provides students with a platform and opportunity to express themselves, improve their English language skills, and appreciate the beauty of the English language.

Promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding: The competition attracts students from different countries and cultural backgrounds. Through their works, students express their understanding and perspectives on different cultures, values, and issues, promoting cross-cultural exchange and understanding.

Enhancing social awareness and engagement: By participating in the competition, students are encouraged to deeply reflect on and express their concerns and awareness of environmental protection, social welfare, cultural diversity, life ideals, and goals through English poetry, thereby fostering social engagement.

Building confidence and English expression abilities: Winning awards or having their works showcased can boost students’ confidence and encourage them to boldly express their views and emotions through English poetry.

Competition Format:

Eligibility: The competition is open to primary and secondary school students from any country, aged 7 to 18. Themes: Participants are encouraged to explore diverse themes such as nature, friendship, dreams, emotions, or social issues. Categories: The competition will have separate categories for primary and secondary school students. Language: All poems must be written in English. Format: Participants can submit their poetry works in written form (printed or handwritten) or through audio/video performances. Length: Poems should ideally not exceed 100 English words in length.

Competition Guidelines:

1. Submission Process:

  • Participants submit their works online via email to the designated email address: himalaya@canlives.com.
  • Each participant submits one original English poem, strictly prohibiting plagiarism or unauthorized copying.
  • Works can be submitted in written form (printed or handwritten) or through audio/video performances, with a file size not exceeding 50MB.
  • After submitting their works via email, students must receive an email receipt to confirm the successful submission.

2. Submission Requirements:

Students participating in the competition do not need to register separately. They can directly send their works to the competition’s email address, clearly stating their country name, city name, school name, grade/class, full name, gender, contact phone number, contact email address (or their parents’), and the name of their recommender (if applicable). Incomplete information may result in the disqualification of the submission if the organizers are unable to contact the author.

3. Evaluation Process:

  • The judging panel will consist of English research experts, professional poets, education specialists, linguists, literature enthusiasts, and other relevant personnel.
  • The evaluation process will include preliminary review, secondary review, and final selection rounds.
  • Evaluation criteria will consider creativity, expressive ability, language usage, and thematic presentation of the English poetry.

4. Awards and Recognition:

  • The competition will present first, second, and third prizes, as well as honorable mentions and other special awards, based on the quantity and quality of the submissions.
  • Special awards, such as Best Creativity Award or Best Performance Award, Best Expressiveness Award, or Best Organization Award, may be granted by the judging panel.
  • Special Scholarship Award: Winners will receive special scholarships of varying amounts from participating schools.
  • Special Organization Award: All organizations with more than five participating or non-participating students will receive a special organization award.
  • All winning authors will receive electronic certificates.
  • All successful submission authors will receive electronic commemorative certificates.

Timeline:

The competition will be conducted in two stages.

  • The first stage will start on July 13, 2023, with a submission deadline of January 12, 2024.
  • The second stage will start on January 13, 2024, with a submission deadline of May 12, 2024.

Evaluation Schedule:

Students can submit their works at any time during the aforementioned timeline. The organizers will conduct evaluations every two months based on the submissions, select outstanding works, and announce the results. Some of the outstanding works will be showcased in news and cultural columns on the CANLIVES Events website.

Registration Fee:

  • The registration fee is $5 USD. For payment methods, please contact: himalaya@canlives.com.
  • Co-organizing schools or institutions’ participating students are exempt from the registration fee. 
  • The participation in the competition, organized by the school, is exempt from registration fee.

Promotion and Publicity:

The competition will be extensively promoted through school notifications, social media platforms, student parent groups, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and other channels. Collaborations with schools, community organizations, and art institutions will be established to expand the scope of promotion and increase participation.

Copyright:

All copyright of the submitted works will belong to CANLIVES. By submitting their works, authors automatically agree to the default copyright rules. However, when using the works, CANLIVES will credit the authors’ nationality and name.

Exhibition of Works:

After receiving the works, the organizers will conduct preliminary screening and gradually showcase the selected works on the CANLIVES Events website. Displayed student works will be accompanied by corresponding labels, introducing the student’s name, age, school, and other relevant information. Additionally, the organizers will invite students, parents, teachers, and the public to visit the online exhibition, providing interactive activities and opportunities for learning and exchange. Award-winning works will also be featured in touring exhibitions organized by different host countries, co-organizers, or related venues to expand the influence of the works and their authors.

Follow-up Activities:

The organizers will arrange for selected students to participate in international literary forums, poetry recitals, English poetry creation activities, art exchange events, or exhibitions, further stimulating the creative enthusiasm of students from various countries and providing opportunities for learning and exchange. Promotional opportunities will be provided for award-winning students, such as showcasing their English poetry works in schools, communities, and the media.

Through this competition, we hope to inspire students’ creativity and desire for self-expression while fostering their English language skills and literary appreciation. It provides a unique opportunity for students to showcase their talents and engage in communication and interaction with peers from around the world.
